Charts And Drawings

This page documents the current desktop chart controls. For account selection, Chart Trader, OCO behavior, and order-routing safety, read Chart Trader And Manual Trading.

Create A Chart

  1. Configure and connect the required market-data provider.
  2. Add the required symbol under Tools > Instruments if it is not already local.
  3. Select New > Chart.
  4. In Data Series, choose the connection and instrument.
  5. Choose the series type, series value, and bar type.
  6. Choose Days or Custom Range:
    • Days uses Days to Load and an End Date.
    • Custom Range uses Period Start and Period End.
  7. For a UniRenko/custom Renko series, configure its trend, reversal, and open-offset values.
  8. Select OK and wait for historical data to load.

If the instrument is missing, follow Instruments And Lists. If candles do not load, follow Historical Data And Import.

Multiple Data Series And Presets

The Data Series window supports Add and Remove for series rows. Configure additional series only when the indicator or strategy explicitly consumes them; the selected primary series remains the chart's main instrument/timeframe context.

Use the preset controls to:

  • Load an existing Data Series preset;
  • Save the current configuration as a preset;
  • Export a preset for controlled transfer or backup.

Review the connection, instrument, and date range after loading an old or imported preset. A preset does not verify current provider support or contract metadata.

Chart Toolbar

The top chart toolbar provides these control groups:

AreaCurrent actions
SeriesInstrument selector and quick timeframe selector
InspectionData Box and crosshair
Trading/data windowsPerformance, live orders/trades, Time and Sales, Economic News, and Chart Trader
ScriptsCompile, Indicator, Strategy, and Reload Chart Data
Assistance/alertsAI Agent and Discord alert control
LayoutChart layout selector and duplicate chart

The fixed quick-timeframe choices are 1m, 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h, 8h, 12h, 1D, 1W, and 1M.

Changing the visible series does not stop a running strategy

If an enabled strategy is running on the chart, changing the chart instrument or timeframe detaches that strategy from the visual chart and keeps its session running on the original data series. Manage or stop it from the main Strategies tab. Never assume a chart symbol/timeframe change stopped account-affecting logic.

Before changing a chart series:

  1. Check whether a strategy is enabled.
  2. Stop it if continued execution is not intended.
  3. Change the instrument or timeframe.
  4. Recheck the main Strategies, Orders, and Positions tabs.

Right-Click Chart Menu

Right-click an unselected chart area to access:

  • Data Series;
  • Indicators and Strategies;
  • indicator visibility;
  • crosshair and price-line controls;
  • Bid/Ask display as Banners, Price lines, or Off;
  • Zoom In and Zoom Out;
  • Share > Copy Chart Image and Save Chart Image;
  • Export Chart Dataset;
  • Options;
  • Reload Script.

The context menu displays + and - next to the two zoom commands; use the menu or drawing-toolbar zoom buttons in the current release.

Change Chart Options

  1. Right-click the chart.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Change the required style, visual, or trade settings.
  4. Choose one of these actions:
    • Apply applies the changes and keeps the window open.
    • OK applies the changes and closes the window.
    • Cancel closes without applying changes that have not already been applied.

Current options include:

SectionSettings
Chart styleCandlestick style, bar width, up/down body colors, matched or separate outline/wick colors, and line style/width
VisualAuto Scale; chart background; text, grid, and marker colors; price line; Bid/Ask presentation; indicator separator; and price/time/order fonts
TradesBuy/sell execution colors and execution plotting

Current chart backgrounds include Black, Hyperion Dark, Dark Gray, Charcoal, Charcoal Deep, Graphite, Dark Green, and Slate. The current chart style and scale justification are Candlestick and Right.

Chart Options affect the current chart and persist supported values as future chart defaults. Bar width and some current-window state can remain chart-specific. For application skin and global chart defaults, see Appearance, Theme, And Language.

Use The Data Box

Select Data Box on the chart toolbar. HyperionX opens one floating, topmost Data Box for that chart and reuses it while the chart remains open.

Move the pointer across visible candles to inspect:

  • date, open time, and close time;
  • open, high, low, and close;
  • volume and current bar index;
  • indicator plot values grouped by chart panel and plot name.

Indicator-value colors follow the plot color at the selected bar where available. The Data Box clears when the pointer is outside the visible data range or the chart has no candles. Its values are inspection data; they are not an order or provider-account confirmation.

Drawing Tools

The chart drawing toolbar currently provides:

  • Pointer
  • Trend Line
  • Horizontal Line
  • Vertical Line
  • Ray
  • Rectangle
  • Brush
  • Text
  • Marker
  • Ruler
  • Risk/Reward
  • Fibonacci Retracement
  • Elliot Wave

Create A Drawing

  1. Select a drawing tool.
  2. Click or drag the required anchor points on the active chart panel.
  3. Complete the tool's final point. Text opens its editor as part of creation.
  4. The chart returns to pointer mode after the drawing is completed.

Press Escape to cancel an in-progress drawing.

Select And Edit A Drawing

  1. Return to Pointer.
  2. Select the drawing.
  3. Drag an unlocked anchor to reposition or resize it.
  4. Right-click the selected drawing for Copy, Remove, Bring To Front, Send To Back, lock/unlock, and Properties.

Properties include common color, line style, and line width settings plus type-specific fields. Examples include rectangle fill/opacity, Risk/Reward ratio and labels, Fibonacci levels, text, brush, and wave settings.

Press Delete or Backspace to remove the selected drawing when a text input does not have focus.

Manage Multiple Drawings

Drawing controls also provide:

  • snap drawing points;
  • lock the selected drawing;
  • lock or unlock all drawings;
  • show or hide drawings;
  • a drawing layers menu for selection and forward/backward ordering;
  • clear all drawings.
Clear All Drawings is immediate

The layers menu's Clear all drawings command clears the chart's manual drawing collection immediately. Save the workspace or duplicate/export the required evidence before clearing a chart.

Chart Tabs

Chart tabs appear along the bottom of a standard chart window. Select a tab to make it active, or select the + button to duplicate the current chart in a new tab.

Right-click a tab for:

  • Rename tab;
  • Duplicate in new tab;
  • Move to new window;
  • Close tab.

HyperionX will not destroy a chart tab while that tab still has an attached strategy or while the connection account reports a position in the chart symbol. If Close tab appears to do nothing, inspect the strategy and position first. Do not close a position merely to dismiss a tab; manage it according to the intended trading plan.

Moving a tab to a new window keeps the same chart session. Recheck the active chart, account-facing controls, and strategy state after moving it.

Duplicate And Arrange Charts

Use the layout selector to split the chart area into a supported multi-chart layout. Select the intended pane before changing its instrument, timeframe, indicators, or drawings.

Duplicate Chart copies the current chart parameters and its available candle snapshot into another chart. A duplicate is a new chart view; confirm its live connection, strategy state, and account-facing controls independently.

Export Or Refresh Chart Data

Export A Dataset

  1. Confirm that candles are loaded.
  2. Right-click the chart and select Export Chart Dataset.
  3. Choose a CSV destination. The default export location is under Documents\HyperionX\Exports.
  4. Review the completion message for row and indicator counts.

The CSV contains candle fields and available indicator columns. Treat it as a point-in-time export; it does not include a guarantee of provider completeness or future corrections.

Copy Or Save An Image

Use Share > Copy Chart Image for the clipboard or Share > Save Chart Image for a file. Before sharing, inspect the image for account names, order identifiers, proprietary indicators, and other sensitive data.

Reload Chart Data

Reload Chart Data can invalidate cached series data and request it again for supported providers. The command is ignored while the chart is already busy, and provider/cache behavior varies. Wait for the load to finish and verify candle timestamps and live updates afterward.

Troubleshooting

The Data Box Is Empty

  • Confirm that the chart has candles.
  • Move the pointer over the visible candle area.
  • Keep the pointer left of the price axis.
  • Reload data only after checking the connection and requested range.

A Drawing Cannot Be Moved

  • Select Pointer.
  • Confirm that the individual drawing is unlocked.
  • If all drawings are locked, use Unlock all drawings.
  • Confirm that drawings are visible and that the intended chart pane is active.

A Chart Changed But A Strategy Is Still Running

Open the main Strategies tab immediately. The strategy can be detached and continuing on its original series. Stop it from the strategy session controls, then verify provider orders and positions.
