Instruments And Lists

HyperionX separates a provider's instrument catalog from the instruments stored locally in the application. Add an instrument locally before expecting it to appear consistently in chart selectors, lists, or other desktop tools.

Instrument Concepts​

An identical display symbol on two connections is not necessarily the same tradable product. Connection, provider identifier, type, exchange, tick size, lot size, and multiplier all matter.

Add Instruments From A Provider​

  1. Configure the provider under the Connections menu. See Connections.
  2. Select Tools > Instruments.
  3. In the provider side of the window, choose the connection and instrument type.
  4. Use Find to filter the provider catalog.
  5. Select one or more results and choose Add, or choose Add All for the displayed provider results.
  6. Confirm that the instruments appear under Local instruments.
  7. Select OK when finished.

The available provider search panel depends on the selected connection. HyperionX favors an already connected provider when opening the window; otherwise it can select the first configured connection. Some providers require an active connection before their catalog can be loaded.

Adding a provider result persists a local instrument record and refreshes the current application's instrument cache.

Search Local Instruments​

The local side of Tools > Instruments can filter by:

  • instrument type;
  • connection;
  • symbol or description text.

The local table exposes metadata including symbol, local/base/quote symbols, system type, exchange, connection, price increment, minimum lot size, notional value, multiplier, and description.

Double-click a local row to inspect or edit its instrument definition. Provider-supplied precision and contract metadata directly affect chart scaling and order sizing. Prefer a provider refresh over manual edits unless you know the provider's exact specification.

Verify contract metadata before order entry

An incorrect price increment, minimum lot size, multiplier, or provider identity can produce invalid prices or quantities. Compare the local record with the provider's current contract specification before using it for trading.

Remove Local Instruments​

  1. Select Tools > Instruments.
  2. Filter Local instruments to the intended connection and type.
  3. Select the required rows and choose Remove, or use Remove All only when the filtered scope is correct.
  4. Select OK.

Removing a local instrument does not remove the symbol from the provider. It removes HyperionX's local catalog entry for that connection. Review saved lists, chart presets, workspaces, and custom scripts that refer to the instrument before removing it.

Use An Instrument Selector​

Chart and tool selectors use the selected connection and instrument type as search context. Search can match symbol, local symbol, provider identifier, exchange, product/type, currency, or description.

Keyboard behavior:

  • Type to filter the available local instruments.
  • Press Down Arrow to move focus into the results.
  • Press Enter to choose the highlighted result; when focus remains in search, Enter selects the first result.
  • Press Escape to close the result popup.

BTC/XBT aliases are considered during matching. Exact and prefix matches are ranked ahead of weaker description matches, and perpetual products can rank ahead of dated delivery contracts. Always read the full selected instrument and connection after choosing a result.

Blank searches can be suppressed for a large catalog, and result sets can be limited for responsiveness. Type a more specific symbol, exchange, or description when no initial list appears.

Create An Instrument List​

  1. Select Tools > Instrument Lists.
  2. Choose Add in the list pane.
  3. Enter a unique, descriptive list name.
  4. Select the new list.
  5. Select one or more instruments from the local catalog in the lower-right pane.
  6. Choose Add to place them in the selected list.
  7. Select OK to close the window.

Only local instruments can be added to a named list. If a symbol is missing, add it first through Tools > Instruments.

Rename, Remove, Or Change A List​

  • Double-click a list name or use its edit action to change the name.
  • Select a member in the upper-right pane and choose Remove to remove it from that list.
  • Select a list and choose Remove in the list pane to delete the list.

Instrument-list changes are saved as they are made. OK closes the window; it is not a batch-save or undo boundary. Review the selected list before deleting it or making large membership changes.

Deleting a list does not delete its instruments from the local instrument catalog.

Why An Instrument May Be Missing​

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Confirm that the intended provider connection is configured.
  2. Open Tools > Instruments and select the correct connection and instrument type.
  3. Search the provider catalog and add the symbol locally.
  4. Reopen the chart or tool selector and search with a specific symbol.
  5. Check for a local/provider symbol difference, such as BTC versus XBT.
  6. For futures, confirm the exact expiry instead of relying on a root symbol.
  7. Confirm the provider currently exposes that market and product type.

If a provider catalog fails to load, inspect Log, reconnect once, and follow Support And Diagnostics. Do not create guessed contract metadata to bypass a catalog failure.
