Licensing And Entitlements
HyperionX validates a license against a machine identity and applies a signed list of entitlements. The entitlement list—not the presence of a menu item—is the authority for feature access.
Open The License Window
Select License in the upper-right area of the main window. HyperionX can also show this window during the initial desktop setup.
The window contains:
- License Key;
- Email/User;
- read-only Machine identity;
- plan, entitlement, and validation status;
- Validate, Clear, and OK.
Validate A License
- Connect the computer to the internet.
- Open License.
- Enter the license key exactly as issued.
- Enter the associated email/user identifier when required.
- Select Validate.
- Read the status, plan label, and entitlement list.
- Select OK to close the window.
OK closes the window; it does not submit or revalidate a changed key. Always select Validate after editing license information.
When validation succeeds, the client accepts only trusted, machine-matched signed entitlements. A response without a trusted entitlement token is rejected.
Clear A License
Select Clear to remove the current license key, user, entitlements, session tokens, and cached validation state from active use. The client returns to a non-connected/Free state.
Clearing a license does not cancel a subscription or revoke the key at its issuer. It also does not delete unrelated workspaces, scripts, market-data connections, or research data.
Plan Labels And Entitlements
The plan label is a client-side summary of the signed entitlement set. In the current desktop:
| Label | Current client interpretation |
|---|---|
| Free | No valid entitlement set, or a valid set that does not match the complete Pro/Elite grouping below |
| Pro | Chat, Desktop Tools, Code Lab, Agent Builder, and Sim Trade are all present |
| Elite | The Pro set plus Advanced Agents, Premium Models, Optimizer, and Live Trade |
| Admin | The administrative entitlement, which grants administrative access in the client |
The detailed entitlement list is more precise than the plan label. Current feature checks include:
| Entitlement | Examples of gated access |
|---|---|
| Chat | Rion chat access |
| Desktop Tools | Permissioned Rion desktop/tool actions, including validator-scoped actions |
| Code Lab | Code Lab launcher and related permissioned actions |
| Agent Builder | Agent Builder |
| Sim Trade | Permissioned Rion simulated-trading actions |
| Live Trade | Permissioned live-trading actions in a release-enabled build; the 1.1.10 baseline does not expose the route, and the entitlement alone does not enable it |
| Optimizer | Optimizer-scoped Rion actions and entitled optimizer access paths |
| Premium Models / Advanced Agents | Premium model and advanced-agent capabilities |
| Research Lab | Research Lab; current client also accepts Premium Models for this launcher |
| Admin | Administrative diagnostics and official Rion Discord configuration, plus other admin-only access |
The Sim Trade entitlement applies to permissioned Rion simulation actions. The 1.1.10 baseline does not expose a Local Desktop API live-order route; newer release-enabled builds can use Live Trade for guarded Hyperliquid and KuCoin actions. Neither entitlement is a substitute for provider-specific capabilities and settings, active chart/account matching, connection state, exchange permissions, or instrument scope. See Local Agent Live Trading API.
Product packaging can change independently of a client release. Use the entitlement list shown by the installed client and the terms supplied with the license when confirming access.
Menus And Locked Features
Some gated tools remain visible in the main menu. When opened, they can display an access message instead of launching. This is expected when the signed entitlement is absent.
Common examples include:
- Tools > Code Lab;
- Tools > Agent Builder;
- Tools > Research Lab;
- permissioned Rion actions for Validator, Optimizer, simulation, live trading, and research;
- administrative diagnostics and Rion Discord configuration.
After successful validation, close and reopen the affected command if it was already open. The main window refreshes entitlement-dependent commands after the License window closes.
Offline And Refresh Behavior
The desktop refreshes a cached license at startup when the last successful validation is at least 12 hours old.
If the license service is temporarily unavailable, HyperionX can use cached entitlements only when:
- the previous state was valid;
- a successful validation occurred less than 24 hours earlier; and
- at least one entitlement is cached.
The status then reads Offline using cached entitlements. This is a short fallback, not a permanent offline license. Once the cached validation is 24 hours old, an unavailable service cannot keep that entitlement set valid.
Reconnecting to the internet does not guarantee immediate recovery if the key, user, machine identity, or signed token is invalid. Open License and select Validate.
Machine Identity
The displayed Machine value is derived from a stable, hashed Windows device identity. A material Windows/device identity change invalidates the machine-bound session and requires validation again.
If this happens:
- Open License.
- Confirm that the Machine value is populated.
- Re-enter the issued key and email/user.
- Select Validate.
- Contact support if the license has reached an activation/device limit.
Do not copy another computer's local license file as an activation method. Machine-matched signed entitlements will not become valid by copying cached state.
Local Storage And Privacy
License state is stored for the current Windows user at:
%APPDATA%\HyperionX\AIAgent\license.json
The license key and access/refresh tokens are protected with the current Windows user scope. The file also contains non-secret operational metadata such as machine identity, user identifier, plan, entitlements, timestamps, and validation messages.
Local protection does not defend against malware or another process running as the signed-in Windows user. Never post the file publicly or include it in a general support attachment. If support requests license diagnostics, share only the minimum requested fields through the approved private channel.
Troubleshooting
License Rejected
- Re-enter the key without leading or trailing spaces.
- Confirm the associated email/user.
- Confirm the computer date, time, and timezone.
- Confirm that the key is intended for this product/environment and device.
- Select Validate once.
- Record the status text and last-checked time without exposing the key.
License Service Unavailable
- Confirm internet access and the Windows clock.
- Check whether security software or a proxy blocks HyperionX.
- If the status says Offline using cached entitlements, save work before the 24-hour fallback expires.
- Retry validation after connectivity is restored.
- Use Support And Diagnostics if the service remains unavailable.
A Feature Still Says It Is Locked
- Open License and inspect the exact entitlement list.
- Do not rely only on the Pro/Elite label.
- Select Validate, then close the License window.
- Reopen the tool.
- If the required entitlement is absent, contact the license issuer; reinstalling does not add an entitlement.
Machine Identity Changed
Revalidate once. If activation is refused, do not edit license.json; record the Machine value and contact support through a private channel.
